Are you interested in volunteering abroad alongside our Malteser partners?

"Malteser Volunteers" is a programme offered by Malteser Foreign Aid, giving you the opportunity to do volunteer work abroad through Malteser partner organisations. Volunteering assignments are short-term, and you can participate without any specific prior experience or specialist knowledge. Through close exchange, friendship, and community, you will experience what it means to be a Malteser. We also provide organisational, technical, and financial support for your assignment abroad!

Your assignment as a Malteser Volunteer

As a Malteser Volunteer you can gain experience in the international social-medical field. Volunteering allows you to get to know the country, its people, and other ways of life. Everyone involved can learn from each other and share their expertise and experiences, often leading to valuable contacts and lifelong friendships. As a Malteser Volunteer, you dedicate your time and energy on-site by providing needs-based assistance and making a tangible contribution to people in need.

Foreign volunteers in Germany

As part of the Malteser Hilfsdienst in Germany, you can also host Malteser Volunteers from abroad. There are certain requirements for this:

  • Before accepting a volunteer, it is important to provide a designated local contact person who speaks either English or the volunteer's language.
  • The volunteer should be provided with at least one private room in their accommodation, serving as a personal retreat.
  • If possible, you should also provide meals for your guest. This helps the volunteer focus on their tasks without having to worry about basic needs.
  • Depending on local circumstances or distance, it may sometimes be necessary to organise transportation to the assignment location for the volunteer. It’s important to have this all set up before the volunteer arrives.
